How To Add Chat Rules On Twitch

Setting up rules for your viewers and community to follow while you are streaming, whether it's on Twitch, Kick, or any other similar platform, is one of the main things you should do when setting up your account.

Mostly, because it helps you keep your community and yourself safe from people who might want to cause trouble in the chat.

Either way, to add chat rules to your Twitch streams, you just have to do the following:

  • Go to the Creator Dashboard
  • Then head over to Settings
  • Click on Moderation

Once there, you scroll to the Channel Privileges area. Inside is the Chat Rules section, and you can enter the rules you want your viewers to agree to before they can interact in your chat.

💡Tip

To make sure your viewers and moderators can always see your rules, you can add them to your streaming panels or descriptions so they can always check them out in case they forget.

🎯Why is this important?

There are some creators and streamers who don't really put much thought into their stream rules, and that's fine. It's not like you need the perfect set of rules before you go live.

However, I personally believe that having at least a few reasonable rules on your stream is necessary for a couple of reasons.

  1. It gives viewers and potential chatters an expectation of what they can do in your chat and what your boundaries are
  2. It gives moderators a guideline of what to allow and how to react when a chatter breaks the rules

This way, if a viewer does something that makes you feel uncomfortable, you can point it out or have your moderators do it for you.

While most viewers will respect your boundaries and rules, there are always those who like to push them, and having some rules should help you deal with them.

That's it. I hope this helps you to make your streams a safer place for you and your community.

See you next time.
